We're a very small rabbitry located in northern Macomb County in Michigan.
We specialize in sustaining the American Heritage breed American Chinchilla.

AMERICAN CHINCHILLAS
An American Heritage breed rabbit

SCOOTER
Born in 2007 and acquired at a flea market without a pedigree, Scooter was originally purchased to be a pet -- and what a super pet he's been! My son spent many hours marching around the yard with Scooter following close behind. They were practically inseparable. As time passed and my son's interest in rabbits turned to breeding, he expressed a desire to breed Scooter so he could have an heir. We had become especially enamoured with the breed and in 2011 decided to purchase a doe and try our hand at breeding Chins.

Scooter is no longer with us, as he passed in March of this year, 2015.
His son, Ogemaw, has taken his place as head sire.

THELMA & LOUISE
Near the end of 2011 we found an American Chinchilla breeder in Ann Arbor, Michigan, not too far away. We have since found out that Scio Valley American Chinchillas is the sole registered breeder of rabbit Chinchillas in Michigan that we know of. That is where we found Louise and Thelma (pictured above). We had intended to purchase only one, but ... you see the end result.
Both girls did well breeding and kindling. Both had their first litters on May 1, 2012 where Thelma had 8 kits and Louise, 5 kits (3 died). We intend on breeding one of them again before the year's end.

Thelma has been removed as a brood doe.

"Jana" is a Latvian name that I husband brought back from a tour of duty in Latvia. At the time he was deployed, we had been naming Jana's litter mates so it would be easier to refer to them. When my soldier arrived home, Jana was the last kit unnamed, but not for long. Dave told us about a name he had heard used and he thought it would be appropriate. Hence, Jana (pronounced "ya-na") was named. She's been a exemplary mother, proven many times. She is often paired with Marshall who is quiet in nature. Along with Jana's loving and gentle temperment, their kits have made some exceptionally well-behaved, not to mention well-tempered rabbits.

River is a beautiful doe. She was a gift to this rabbitry from our friends at Willow Ranch Rabbitry when they decided to move on from breeding American Chinchillas. We were ecstatic to receive her and she has proven herself to be an immeasureable mother. She is an active doe when mothering and just slightly a bit less active when not. She will play and gobble up dandelions in a heartbeat!

The name "Ogemaw" is of the Ojibway Native American language and means "chief." Our son bestowed this name upon this great bunny and he certainly looks and fits the part. He is one of our largest rabbits being born from Scooter Bay and Sio's Louise. Ogemaw had definitely inherited his father's disposition for wanting and showing affection, while he holds his mother's gentleness. With the passing of his father, Scooter, Ogemaw is now our herd's head buck. An honour he is well up to maintaining.

Marshall was brought to our attention by a fellow breeder, Diana Campbell of XXXXX, who after speaking with our son in detail and presenting him, felt he would be an asset to our breeding program. Cripe's Marshall is nearly perfect in type.

Snow White Chinchillas
Threse three American Chinchillas are a product of Jana and Marshall, which announced the "c" gene in our rabbitry. You can read more about what the "c" gene is here.

"Alice," "Dori," and "Clockwork" have been helping us to determine which line in our herd is carrying this gene. It may take several years to complete this project as we will need to breed each buck and doe a minimum of three times to determine in which of our lines the gene shows up.
