We're a very small rabbitry located in northern Macomb County in Michigan.
We specialize in sustaining the American Heritage breed American Chinchilla.

about us

Hey there!
Welcome to our rabbitry.
(originally posted August 23, 2012)

We're a family of three -- dad, mom and son -- who are enjoying living with rabbits and sharing our love of them with everyone! We are especially drawn to two particular breeds of rabbits: the large, hardy and gentle American heritage rabbit the American Chinchilla, which has been labeled as "critical" and seriously threatened with extinction; and the small, active and playful Holland Lop. Hence our rabbitry name "great and small."

Our first rabbit, or I should say my son's first rabbit, was the American Chinchilla who is named "Scooter." Scooter has been a best friend and companion of my son for over six years now. It wasn't until 2008 that we acted on his wishes to breed him and have "little scooters" as heirs. That's when we found and added "Thelma and Louise," sister American Chins out of Scio Valley American Chinchillas. (Scio Valley is no longer in business.)

We all take care of the feeding and cleaning, but the majority of the feeding is our son's responsibility. He is an active member in our community 4H group and a member of the group's Rabbit Club as well. In 2013 he became a teen mentor, helping the younger, newer 4H members learn about rabbits in general from treating their rabbits with respect, to teaching them about a rabbit's anatomy and any health concerns. He has taken well to the job and is very disciplined in taking care of his rabbits and helping others.

We love rabbits and we especially enjoy seeing others experience the joy of owning these wonderful creatures. Our focus is two-fold: (1) we strive to provide healthy, high-quality animals for pets or for show; and, (2) we hope to help perpetuate the American Chinchilla thru sustaining the breed and educating the public about these gentle animals.

Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
